Airplane director Bruce Foster studied photography and cinema at Auckland University School of Fine Arts. He has worked as a filmmaker since the founding of Airplane Studios in 2003 and previously as a photographer for numerous books and magazines, including two years as expedition photographer for National Geographic magazine. Bruce has a BE and MPhil from the University of Auckland.

His first film, Open Road (2005), is the story of New Zealander Wade Thompson and how he created the largest US recreational vehicle company after the initial purchase for one dollar, of the iconic Airstream. Other documentary film projects include: Influenza Pandemic – What You Really Need to Know, Sleeping Giants, Lines Across the Ocean and most recently Lake Stories Aotearoa New Zealand.

Bruce has photographed internationally for a wide range of publications including an expedition, The Sindbad Voyage for National Geographic Magazine. He is the principal photographer for numerous books including: Stockman Country, Faces of the River, Last Saturday, Citizen of Santiago, and The Lobster’s Tale.
